Who we are

Our goal

With Kacsakő, we establish a secure and inclusive space for children from diverse social backgrounds to come together and learn from one another. Our objective is to unite children from various backgrounds, including Roma and non-Roma, representing minority and majority groups, both from economically disadvantaged and middle-class families. We aim to reduce prejudice and social gaps while supporting their psychosocial development. We assist children in resolving conflicts within a safe setting and encourage them to understand each other’s perspectives. We believe that through these efforts, we help shape socially aware and resilient adults capable of handling misunderstandings in their lives.

We believe that inclusive sports and adventure programs help reduce children’s prejudices and empower them to communicate their interests. Our programs are based on non-formal, experiential, and outdoor learning methods. We place a particular emphasis on fair play sports as they serve a universal language that bridges cultural differences.

Our story

2018

We have a dream

As an informal group of young people — under the wing of the Egyesek Youth Association — we are applying for a grant to organize a camp where socially underprivileged and more privileged, Roma and non-Roma children can meet in order to break down the walls between them through positive shared experiences.

2019

It all begins with a camp

The result: the first Kacsakő Camp. The experience of a handful of enthusiastic young people and a group of children meeting for the first time. New faces, new adventures, tradition-creating programs, and a week of thrilling emotional rollercoasters in UNESCO World Heritage village of Hollókő.

2020

We’ll be back again

Fueled by our experiences and challenges, we’re embarking on our second camp. The first campers are returning to Hollókő as friends, where improved and new ‘Kacsakő’ adventures await them.

2021

We are sailing into new waters

Our revamped camp has been realised thanks to the support of Nordson. With our team, which has grown together over the first few years, we are starting a new chapter: we are founding our Association and launching our monthly Kacsakő Klub programs, which aim to strengthen the Kacsakő community and provide new experiences for children.

2022

The next generation is coming

As part of the Generation Europe — The Academy international program, we are launching our three-year Kacsakő Next program for campers over the age of 13. Through mini-camps, international youth encounters, a realization of a social project by the youngsters, the goal is to build teamwork, develop youngsters’ communication and language skills, and empower them to be active citizens. This year we have been selected as a finalist of the SALTO Award in the category of Inclusion and Diversity.

2023

Kacsakő is five years old

We are returning for the third time to the lovely Soltvadkert, where we are enjoying the hospitality of Budapest Sports Service Provider Nonprofit Ltd. Thanks to the year-round club programs and team-building weekends, we are becoming the kind of community we dreamed of when we started out.

2024

Our most eventful year yet

1 summer camp, 1 international camp in Portugal, 2 Kacsakő Next mini camps, 3 charity tournaments, 4 volunteer training sessions, 10 Kacsakő Klub programs, 20+ volunteers… Our mentoring program is launched, and we are honored to be included in the MVM ZENERGIA finals and the Edison 100 platform.

2025

Moving forward together

We are joining the Appy community, which supports associations and foundations. In addition to our monthly clubs and our seventh summer camp, we are launching our Kacsakő For You team-building program, which allows companies and groups of friends to experience Kacsakő for themselves. And there is still so much more in store for the rest of the year…
